The Oceania Construction Cost Commentary is a bi-annual publication produced by the Oceania region of Rider Levett Bucknall and designed to highlight key factors affecting the cost of construction work throughout Australia and New Zealand.

    Rider Levett Bucknall's April 08 Oceania Construction Cost Commentary confirms there are uncertain times ahead for the Australian and New Zealand construction industry.

    In construction markets, the global credit squeeze has affected New Zealand confidence levels to a greater extent than it has in Australia where as Mark Lochran, director of Research at Rider Levett Bucknall states: "Australia-wide, there is an abundance of workload at an all time high, although the latest building Approvals have slipped somewhat."

    Sydney to Join the Party? Across Australia, the construction market remains buoyant with signals suggesting that activity levels are set to rise in New South Wales, as they already have in Victoria. In New Zealand, construction markets are reasonably buoyant across most sectors, the principle driver for the moment being Government spending on new buildings and infrastructure.

    Onward and upward. Tendering activity continues to surge in most Australian cities, Sydney being the only location bucking the trend. In New Zealand, sustained levels of Building Consents and the coming on-line of some major projects indicate continued high levels of activity in 2007.
