The head office of SA Water in Adelaide has become the largest new office building in Australia to gain a coveted six-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).
The $150 million building is one of two to have been added to the GBCA's six-star register.
SA Water is the first government building (either State or Federal) to achieve a six-star rating.
Rider Levett Bucknall Associate, Tom Bernard, a Green Star accredited consultant and cost planner says "this project sets new sustainability benchmarks for public sector projects".
Features include an on-site gas fired generator to reduce peak energy use, rainwater collection, extensive use of natural light and sun shades and veils.
Rider Levett Bucknall Director, Andrew Suttie, who is also a member of the Property Council of Australia's Sustainable Development Committee, concludes,
"This is a landmark building with regards to sustainability, however, we also need to concentrate much more effort on greening up our existing building stock".
