Workplace 6 in Pyrmont, Sydney has won the 2009 Development Excellence Award for Sustainable Development at this year's Urban Taskforce Awards.
Designed on behalf of the GPT Group and Citta Property Group, Workplace 6 represents the final site of the Darling Island precinct. The 18,000 m2 corporate campus' commitment to the highest level of sustainable management has set a new benchmark for NSW.
A leading example of environmentally sustainable design, the building offers superior occupant comfort and amenity while achieving exceptional efficiency in water and energy use through use of chilled beams, trigeneration, harbour heat injection, solar energy and other leading initiatives.
Rider Levett Bucknall provided independent certification and quantity surveying for this landmark building.
In our role as Independent Certifier we managed and administrated the intricate contractual arrangement between the various project stakeholders including assessment of extension of time claims, overseeing and certifying the process to ensure practical completion requirements were met and defects inspections and reporting, all taking into account the various development and project deeds, contracts and other requirements.
Professor Chris Johnson, Chairman of the judging panel commented on the project, "This commercial building was the first in NSW to achieve a six star office design V2 rating and a five star NABERS energy and water ranking."
"This project is designed to reduce greenhouse emissions by 70 per cent and water consumption by 90 per cent compared to typical office buildings," he said.
The Urban Taskforce is a property development industry group, representing Australia's most prominent property developers and equity financiers.
